Can You Help Us
A major part of the Atherton Cenotaph Memorial Project is to identify the
relatives of local citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice for us. On the page
"Names on Cenotaph" are listed the Names, Service, Regiments and Units of men
and women of our town who are known to have been killed in action or died as a
result of injuries received in battle during the First and Second World Wars.
It is believed that this list may be incomplete. Please be kind enough to check
through the names listed and if you are able to provide further details please
contact the Royal British Legion or Royal Naval Association representative indicated
below.
It would be of great assistance if you would consider the following points:
Do you have a relative whose name is contained in the list but whose Service details
may be incorrect?
Do you have a relative whose name you believe should be added to our Memorial? If so,
please let us know as soon as possible.
Do you have a relative who was killed or died of wounds in conflicts between the
World Wars, and since the Second World War? Such conflicts as Palestine, Korea,
Malaya, Suez or Aden. Please forward his/her Service details for the record.
Do you have a relative who served in the Emergency Services, Civil Defence, Fire,
Police or Ambulance Services during the War?
Do you have a relative who was conscripted into essential War work such as Mining,
the Steel industry, Munitions, Aircraft, Tank and Ship building or the Land Army?
(It is hoped to display a Memorial to Citizens who played their part in the Emergency
Services and Essential Wartime Production Industries within the Memorial Garden)
